Still transforming Heathered faux farm House 2.0

So we revealed where the kitchen was at Christmas time in the last post. There are some other changes since that I will reveal later. This house had a great floor plan but I had to really use the Heather vision to see the true potential. It was so blah and so freaking beige with no updates except for the floor. Miguel has been working on this place like a Possessed demon since we moved in, literally ripping stuff down as we were moving the boxes in. I know this house is 18 years old but you would think you might of wanted to do something with it! And don’t even get me started on the command hooks in this house with nails in the middle of them so they never fall off!!!! Millions of command hooks everywhere!! And later ill tell you a story about how they used metal closet shelves in the yard as trellises! Did I say Wowzah! And once again this was not a repo not a short sale this house was to me expensive such is the real estate Market right now ugh.

Miguel has gotten into the demo on the main bathroom. The floor does have to be done in here because it is well… horrible! 18 year old linoleum and it looks filthy. We are cheating on this one. We really liked the way our upstairs bathroom turned out in the old house so we brought most of that décor with us. The vanity is an old dry sink that Miguel converted into a wet sink. It was painted black when that happened. He cut a hole in the top dropped in a bucket and put a really cute faucet on the top. Then I decided that everything needed to be stripped! Poor Miguel.

He stripped the black paint off and discovered that the top has a piece of something like cardboard on top of a beautiful butcher block style top! Why would ya! That’s gone cause Duh! he put a new galvanized bucket on it and it turned out amazing. The bucket cost about $10 at Lowe’s. He cut a hole in the bottom of the bucket and ordered a drain from amazon that was like $10. He can do anything I swear it. He also stripped the mirror and the cabinet for over the toilet. We did not bring the light from the old with us be we found a really nice vanity light at Home Depot. It was something like $90 but good lights are hard to find and never cheap.

Above are the before and after pictures of the bathroom. This is a great shot of the custom vanity. You can also see in the picture that we used the same Floor Pop tiles in here as we did in the kitchen. This bathroom just had to be right as it the one that everyone uses. That brings us to the master bath which actually got done before this bathroom did. I have to say that the master bath was not the best feature of the home. It is kind of a galley style and the doors like is other parts of the house just did not make any sense.

As you can see it had also not been updated since the house was built. The water closet is on the left with the bath tub just past there. Just past the sinks on the right is a stall shower. I have to tell you all this funny story about buying this house. The couple that we bought in from were very nice people and we did buy it during covid but. When we went to the house to look at it the realtor insisted that we wear shoe coverings because the home owner were super neat people. The lady even made a huge deal about it when we went for the inspection practically smacking us in the face with the box of shoe covering.

Wellllll let me tell you after we moved in and got a good close look nothing could have been further from the truth. The shower and the bathtub were disgusting gross in fact. The linoleum was a horrible combination of completely worn out and filthy. In fact, when we mopped the living space and the floor in the kitchen the water was a very interesting shade of dark gray or perhaps black.

But back to the bathroom. One of the issues with the bathroom and the house in general was an over use of doors. I have no idea why the builder did not use pocket doors it would have been a much better idea. In the previous faux farmhouse there was no door between the bedroom and bathroom so we just took that one off. The door on the water closet was still a problem so we decided to make our own. Miguel took the door and covered it to look like a barn door and fashioned up a sliding door like we have in the kitchen. After that we scrubbed the bathroom clean. We put wood trim around the shower to give it a little more zhoosh. We of course painted the whole thing, put down some cute floor pops installed the awesome light we put in the other bathroom and trim around the mirror. Now we are cooking with fire people this is really staring to look like something.

To really make it livable we painted the vanity black to give some contrast. On the vanity I added the same pulls that we used in the kitchen. They were such a great deal and we had a million so we painted the gold. I had Miguel swag a chandelier to give more light in the room. We found some nice little faucets on Amazon that just went really well with the look. The room still needs some work but we had to start somewhere and it will do for now. We plan to replace the counter tops and sinks and Miguel has a plan to replace the bathtub with a two person shower but that will be a major reset and a crap ton of work.

Well that gets us through another post. The next post will show some of the things that we did to make the closets and pantries more usable and amazing! Thanks for reading any of this people we really appreciate you! keep checking out more things to come. And as usual I’m already updating the updates cause that’s what I do! This mind of mine never stops with the freaking ideas! But as always Fantastic Farmhouse touches on the cheap people!
