The Heathered Farmhouse Kitchen 2.0

Day 21

Hello again people!! The work continues at a torrid pace at the new Heathered Farmhouse. Like I said in the last post Miguel has started to branch off into other projects waiting for paint to dry and such. Miguel has been painting the rest of the house but there has been some work in between getting the kitchen completed. As you can see the kitchen is just about to an acceptable level. The cabinets have been painted and Miguel has install the new black hardware. The hardware for the doors were a great deal on Amazon. Ravenite 24 pack really inexpensive and came with two different sets of screws. The pulls are from hobby lobby. We have also installed the new floor pops from amazon as well.

In the previous Heathered Farmhouse I stenciled the tile and that looked great however we were no going to do that again. Stenciling the floor took three weeks on my hands and knees and destroyed by back for a month. Add to that it was not as durable and a floor needs to be. Of course that gets the story of the spilled vodka. Miguel apparently did not put the lid on the bottle of vodka tightly and set it in the basket where we kept it on its side. A bunch of the vodka spilled on the floor and proceeded to act like floor stripper and took the paint off something like 10 tiles. As you can see he still lives but it was a close call lol. This time we bought floor pops from Hobby Lobby (and then Amazon when Hobby Lobby ran out). They are quite a bit cheaper at Hobby Lobby but they do not carry a lot of them at a time we went to every store and bought them out of every box they had. These are peel and stick vinyl tiles they go down super easy and are very durable. The other good part is when I get tired of them they come up pretty easy. I started putting them down and Miguel finished putting them down the next day. The only question in the kitchen now is the shiplap going to get painted white or remain natural wood. I put a poll up on IG to help me determine the best way to do. Stay tuned for the answer to that question.

Like I said before Miguel has moved onto painting and working on other projects because he really never stops moving. I showed you where he had started painting the living/dining room and the family room at the end of the last post. That was at the beginning of week two or day 14. The picture above is the kitchen from day 21 and here are some of the things that also happened in between.

Miguel has gotten the living/dining room and family room painted and we have been able to start getting the house put together. This house did not have a lot of lights in it it was a dark gloomy beige nightmare actually. I could definitely use some pot lights in the two living spaces which I am sure we will add at some point. For now he just started using the light fixtures Miguel has made for me and some beauties that I found on Decor Steals. I keep telling Miguel that I have to unsubscribe from their email I think I might have an addiction LOL. The top two below are the decor steals lights they were meant to be hardwired but Miguel transformed them into swag lights for me. The bottom three are @theheatheredhandyman originals that he made with kits from Lowes and things we found at Home Goods mostly.

Miguel has also put of the barn doors he made from fence pickets that were in the first faux farmhouse. I got the idea for the hardware on the doors from Pinterest. When we were selling the other house the doors were very popular and everyone wanted us to leave them we just could not believe it. As you can see that wasn’t happening!

We have also been able to the antique stained glass pieces hung up the windows. It was really starting to look like our home now. There are a lot of little things that need to be done but I’m getting all the cozy feels now. I think the windows are going to need some trim soon they are just to plain. We have also painted the front door and both sets of French doors black. Everything in the house was painted the same shade without any contrast it was just boring. The French doors are beautiful with gold inlay and the black really brought that out. We also added a shelf on the living/dining room side of the cut out between the two living spaces. I bought a shelf that came with two corbels from Decor Steals (like I said my newest addiction) but Miguel used a piece of 2×10 instead to make it longer.

Well, I must say the kitchen was mostly done at this point but I will fast forward a little for you so you can see a couple cool things. We decided to stain the shiplap on in the kitchen on the front of the bar white. He also surprised me one day with a French door on the on the pantry and a pantry redo. He got rid of the wire shelves and made it beautiful. Also, I mentioned the Decor steals addiction well they had quite the light one day that I just had to have. Check out the picture below.

Doesn’t this room just look incredible. We have transformed this space into such and beautiful and cozy space. It was so much work but sooo worth it. We will leave this weeks post at the end of week three. I will talk to you all next week. Below are the some pictures from the listing for the house to get some perspective on where we have from.

Thanks People!! You are the best.
