Happy New Year People!!!

Happy New Year People!!!! This picture is just a sneak peak of where we got to with our living Room refresh this Christmas. We have been busting our butts for three months straight. It turned out super festive but this just the beginning. The Christmas decorations lifted our spirts due to the Pandemic situation that we have been living through for the last 9 months. The new house has been a blessing but what a saga from selling our house twice in a day to buying a house and having that fall thru at the last minute another saga! to living in an air bnb with all our prize possessions in pods! In the end this new chapter of our lives we hope will be the best house ever. So many blessings this year… such as grandson number four due on the 20th!. We are hopeful the new year will get everyone back to normal whatever that is. So now on with the Heathered Farmhouse 2.0 remodel.

This is day 6 at the new house. As you can see some shiplap is going on the wall and a couple of shelves have been put up. The microwave has been installed. The pony wall has been removed and the new countertops are going in. The butcher block counter tops were a great idea. Easy to work with and cost effective. That is saying nothing of the fact that it really goes with the new decor. Oh Yeah and did I mention I have to start a new job tomorrow! Miguel as usual is putting in his usual herculean effort trying to get some kind of order to the disaster. Mike got the counter tops installed first thing I was so excited about finally getting the sink that I always wanted. We bought a deep Kohler white enamel two compartment cast iron sink from Lowes it weighs about 200 pounds! We also ordered a beautiful new ribbed bronze restaurant style faucet from Amazon. The problem at this point is the sink weighs a ton and there is no point in putting it in without the faucet so we were waiting, not our strong suit.

So the morning of day 7 or should I say the first day of my new job (uugh). Miguel was at home getting stuff done as always in his done yesterday style.. the man is a like having a crew of men people! As you can see from the pictures above The countertops are done and the sink is up and ready to go waiting for the faucet. It was a nice day outside so Miguel decided to remove the sad old ceiling fans underneath the overhang in the back yard. Can you believe someone actually had these I mean really? We bought the two outdoor ceiling fans from Lowes what an improvement. The weather in Albuquerque is pretty awesome for about 9 months a year and we spend all our time outside in our outdoor space.

One of the awesome things about this house was the back yard. It has a huge overhang and high walls. The house in on a corner so it feels like you have no neighbors what a bonus. There is also a nice elevated concrete pad that with be getting a hot tub in the future (yea). We used to have one at a previous home and we loved it. This is what happens around this place, Miguel hits a bump in the road waiting for parts so he started working on something else, He really never stops!

So the morning of day 8 really not allot of changes to the kitchen. Some odds and ends and the ceiling fans got installed. Day 8 did bring some changes to the kitchen. We discovered while we were doing the countertops that there was a dead space in the cupboard at the corner by the wall. Miguel decided to cut an access door to this space from the front of the bar so we could use it for storage. He was really cute talking about remembering a similar set up in a house his aunt owned when he was growing up.

Of course we did this while he was putting vertical shiplap on the front of the bar. I really like the look of the vertical shiplap it provided a similar look but a change that really made the Island a feature I wanted an old store counter look. The faucet came as well so that went in and I was in love immediately!

Day 9, In these pictures you cannot see the door that was cut into the front. The shiplap was still being installed and the door is covering the hole. It is really starting to come along. I was not sure at this point weather the kitchen was going to remain wood or paint it all white but there is still a long way to go. As you can see the picture shows the over the sink light that we brought from the old house that is getting ready to get installed.

That’s all I got for now people have a safe and happy New Year! we will be back with more pics and updates soon.
